Our future success depends on our ability to meet a range of pressing environmental and social needs – that is why Corporate Responsibility is so important to us.

This year we were delighted to be ranked the top performing company in the BITC Corporate Responsibility Index achieving four and half stars – a fantastic achievement. Taking part in the Index has been hugely beneficial to Dairy Crest as it has allowed us to take stock of the vast array of environmental, marketplace, workplace and community activities we are engaged in and it has helped us further develop our corporate responsibility strategy.

In addition to achieving this independent rating we were also honoured to be named as a finalist in the FT’s global corporate responsibility company of the year 2014 award category – an award that is given to the company that has "exemplified boldness in their business activities throughout the year" has "provided a social and environmental legacy" "is an example of good practice that others can follow" and "has delivered value to shareholders".

Finally, in 2014 we were also awarded the IGD’s prestigious President’s Cup for the role we played in helping the organisation achieve its aims and objectives over the last 12 months.

We view corporate responsibility as an opportunity to improve, and as a way of becoming more efficient so we can give shareholders a good return on their investment. It sparks creative, innovative ideas and it helps us gain a better understanding of our consumers.

We know that sometimes we need to work in collaboration with other businesses to achieve our goals. For this reason I am delighted to be a trustee of The Prince’s Countryside Fund and a member of the IGD’s Policy Issues Council.

I believe that our approach to corporate responsibility will benefit our business, the environment and society. I also know that if we can do it, anyone can.
